I am compelled to paint and draw, I always have been. Hold your breath, then breathe.. that is what painting is to me. It is a vital as a renewed breath of air.

For as long as I can remember I have had addiction to making marks. I never know what I am going to draw (doodle). Sometimes inspired by friends, the news or a face; many times, it just appears, and I chase after it.

Marc is a visual storyteller. He gives us a unique perspective of the very things we often take for granted, giving them a voice through his paintings and drawings. Marc Listens closely to the whispered stories that we sometimes tend to ignore. He is able to capture the essence, the beauty, in the discarded or forgotten, and give it life and light.

Over the last few years Marc has explored another form of storytelling and has taken his drawings (doodles) to a new and, at times satirical heights as a tool for a different kind of storytelling; some cultural, whimsical, and others a bit political.

Marc Rubin is a classical, representational oil painter whose work exudes a timeless quality. His use of rich color, and a finely developed eye of composition, set him apart from his contemporaries.

Classically trained by his mentor, Thomas Buechner, in upstate New York, Rubin emerged from his art studies with an inimitable point of view. Based in Elmira, Ny, Marc has served on executive board of directors for the Arnot Art Museum in Elmira, NY and the ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes in Corning, NY as well as a past board member of the Upstate New York chapter of the American Institute of Graphics Arts. He is currently an instructor at 171 Cedar Arts Center in Corning, NY, in addition to offering intermediate and advanced private lessons in the art of representation painting.
